The first property in the NH Hotel Group history, the Ciudad de Pamplona hotel, opens for business in 1978. After four years, the network leaves the Navarra region and, with the addition of NH Calderon in Barcelona, makes its initial inroads into what, a mere ten years later, would become one of the first hotel chains in Spain, with locations in Madrid, Barcelona, and Zaragoza. At that point, in 1988, Corporacion Financiera Reunida, S.A. COFIR became a reference shareholder in the business.
